 Tasting Notes

2001 Chardonnay

Season at Cleveland Estate 2001 was challenging throughout from both cool & threatening weather around the Macedon Ranges. Vintage was kind and high quality fruit was harvested in cold but dry conditions. The wine shows the maturity of my production techniques and will improve greatly with medium term cellaring.

          Colour:       Bright, pale straw/gold.

Bouquet:     Flinty Stone-fruit Chardonnay characters are dominated by complex yeast lees and soft barrel fermentation complexities. There is an underlying mineral soil character reminiscent of Mersault, as the bouquet opens up with time in the glass.

Palate:        Initially there are ripe, soft fruit characters, quickly overpowered by a vinous/ mineral mid-palate giving a long and lively acid finish. The lingering flavours show   the structure typical of our cooler years and the wine should develop well with cellar age.

Serve slightly chilled.
